Egypt

Egypt is in a very unstable position right now. This country is having many financial and economic problems as well as problems in politics. They have had wars that have begun over little issues and now these issues have become very big and serious for the community. There has been problems with the leader of Egypt and recently, the people that live there have been concerned with the thought of their leaders leaving Egypt. What are they to do if their leaders leave? Who will they turn to? Many concerns and fears have been rising in the country which has been causing more and more uprisings. They have a big population of people and these people are in a rough patch and they need help to get out. They need help from someone who will help guide them in the right direction. They need a person who will help all the uprisings of the Egyptians breaking into stores and the uprisings of the unemployed. Egypt needs the most help in their employment standings. They need their people to get jobs in order for their uprisings to calm down and stop.

My commitments to Peace

A long commitment that I will make to peace is to help a person everyday when I can. Helping other people helps you be a better person. And I'm not saying that I will become like a great and appreciated person but it will help me feel better about myself and feel better about doing something little that will help others realize that they too can do the same thing. And by doing such a small favor for another person will help give them a feeling like not all people are alike and will just bypass them when they are in need of help in any way. By doing this I will hopefully help make one step further to achieving some sort of peace. A short commitment that I will make to peace is to smile at people I don't know. By smiling at them I could possibly make their day and that will give them a feeling of peace.

Standing up

What I really liked from the video was how the boy stood up for the other boy and held his hand in front of all the kids. Especially how all the boys and girls started to stand up one after the other holding each others hands. They stood up for each other in front of the boys that were bullying that one boy. And after the rest of the kids stood up, the group that was doing the bullying knew they looked dumb for bullying him for a stupid reason. I don't think it's right for people to make fun of those who are gay, lesbian, bisexual etc. So what if they like the same sex as they are. What should it matter to other people who you like. They don't control you or your life. I would and will stand up for my friends who are gay or lesbian or anything. There's nothing wrong with liking the same sex. That's just the way you are. It doesn't make you any different as a person if you like boys and your a boy or a girl if your a girl or both. It is no one else's choice but yours. And I don't see anything wrong with that. Neither should anyone else see anything wrong with it. If one of my gay friends or lesbian friends was being picked on for being gay or lesbian, I would stand up for them any day. Who you like does not make you a different person on the inside or outside. And honestly, I don't think anyone has the right to judge you for that reason or any other reason. If standing up is what it takes to make the bullying stop, then I think more people should stand up more often.

What helping others can do

The way Greg Mortinson found out how other cultures live and how thier lifestyles are was fascinating to me. He opened up the eyes of people in the mountain regions in Pakistan and Afghanistan to a new thing, such as education for young children, for adults and education for young girls on how to take care of themselves. Greg bonded with the people and gave them hope for their futures. Especially the children, because having schools built for them was really nice and gave them something to look forward to in their lives. These children had the drive to learn but never had a place to learn in. They wanted to learn more about the world but never had the chance to until Greg Mortinson showed up. He made peace with the people and became their friend by helping them instead of being afraid of them. Greg Mortinson expanded the childrens' education and offered more for them to learn about and to actually have places to do the learning in. Mortinson gave the people hope and courage to be able to learn more so they could do more with their lives. He gave them new ways to help support their families financially. For example, there were sewing machines given to the older women so they could make clothes or quilts to make money for their families. Greg didn't make the people change the way they lived or forced the people to do anything they didn't want to do, he simply offered them something more to add in their lives that would really benefit them in the long run. The video showed us how people live in other parts of the world and it showed us of how Greg Mortinson educated the young girls to better their futures.

The word Peace

The word peace to me, means happy things. I know this sounds kind of childish, but it reminds me of being relaxed, clouds, happy faces, the sky and things that make you feel at ease. Peace to me, makes me think that nothing can ever go wrong. It makes me feel like for once, everything will just stay calm and go smoothly. The word peace makes me just want to freeze time and stay in one moment forever. I know it sounds cheesy but peace is like me, imagining myself sitting in the clouds where nothing in the world can touch me and I am the only person staying still. Like time is passing by around me. When some hear the word peace it makes them feel like freedom has just been introduced to them. Like they dont have to listen to anyone or like they are free of all things that didn't give them rights, and that for once, they are their own and not under anyone else. And like I had said before, the word peace gives everyone the sense of happiness and a joyful feeling. It is a word that can put a smile one someones face when they are feeling down. This word to me has many meanings and can be explained in many different ways and can be interpreted as many different things.
